Julie Brisson

Julie Brisson is a third-year graduate student in the Behavioral and Brain Sciences program at the University of Georgia. She completed a B.A. in Human Development and Family Sciences and a B.A. in Psychological Sciences at the University of Connecticut. Her research investigates relations between childhood adversity and physical health. She is a member of the Health and Development Laboratory under the mentorship of Dr. Katie Ehrlich.

Daisi Brand

Daisi Brand is a third-year graduate student in the Behavioral and Brain Sciences program at the University of Georgia. She received a B.S. in Psychology with a Philosophy minor from Fort Hays State University and is now a member of the Close Relationships Lab under the mentorship of Dr. Richard Slatcher. Her research interests broadly focus on the various mechanisms that contribute to higher-quality romantic relationships (e.g., disclosure, responsiveness, intimacy) and social connection.

Christopher Bell

I am a first-generation, low-income graduate student interested in development, motor coordination, theater, and playing the banjo.

Research Interests:

I am interested in studying how motor coordination develops in infants and toddlers. I am more broadly interested in dynamic systems. Currently exploring 2D and 3D markerless pose and movement estimation software. 

Dr. Drew Abney and collaborators piloting new fNIRS hyper-scanning system with funding from OIBR Seed Grant!

Undergraduate researchers in Dr. Drew Abney’s Developmental Dynamics lab pilot a new study using the lab’s new fNIRS hyper-scanning system. The system will be used to collect moment-to-moment neural dynamics of two individuals (two adults, an infant and their caregiver, etc.) simultaneously during naturalistic interactions. Graduate student Courtland Hyatt receives ARP Student Poster Award!

Congratulations to UGA clinical psychology graduate student Courtland Hyatt on receiving the Association for Research in Personality (ARP) 2021 Student Poster Award for his poster "Searching High and Low for Meaningful and Replicable Morphometric Correlates of Personality." Coauthors included fellow current and former UGA psychology graduate students [Brinkley Sharpe from clinical, Ben Listyg from I/O, and Max Owens from BBS] and faculty [Nathan T. Carter and Josh Miller].

Doctoral candidate Lisa Bartolomeo awarded predoctoral NIH fellowship!

Congratulations to Lisa Bartolomeo, a 5th year doctoral candidate in the UGA clinical psychology program, for receiving an F31 grant from the National Institutes of Health! This grant will support Lisa's research towards identifying the brain mechanisms underlying the symptom of avolition, or lack of motivation, in schizophrenia. Way to go, Lisa!

Darah Okeke

Darah Okeke, Esq. is the Founder & President of EPIQ Consulting, a Black-owned enterprise that provides diversity, equity and inclusion advisory services for businesses, as well as employment negotiation and compensation navigation services for individuals. As a senior leader and corporate counsel with nearly 15 years of experience, Darah has practiced employment law with a special focus on DEI issues, such as equal employment opportunity, anti-discrimination/harassment and overall workplace justice. Darah’s experience includes leading prominent companies, such as Twitter and Uber, through the development and implementation of progressive policies and initiatives that drive workplace fairness and belonging. She has also advised her clients on compliance with global, federal, state and local employment laws and regulations. Darah is a graduate of Emory University’s Goizueta Business School (B.B.A.) and the University of Maryland School of Law (J.D., cum laude).

Graduate student Andrew Farkas' new meta-analysis featured in UGA Today!

A new meta-analysis led by UGA Psychology doctoral student, Andrew Farkas, was recently featured on UGA Today. Farkas and colleagues shows that research suggests humor exhibits a surprising amount of brain activity associated with emotional processes. This paper further posits a variety of brain networks are engaged to appreciate humor, include the fundamental emotion networks.
