Charter Lecture

UGA Chapel

We are delighted to host Professor Edward J. Larson as our 2015 Charter Lecturer. Dr. Larson will be speaking on “George Washington and America’s Second Revolution” on Thursday, April 23 at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel.

Following Dr. Larson’s remarks, Dean Stefanie Lindquist will moderate a Q&A session between Dr. Larson and a panel of talented UGA Honors students that will probe the complexities of Washington’s life. We look forward to welcoming Ed Larson back to campus for the Charter Lecture, and I ask that you mark your calendars for this important University event.

Speaker Bio:

Dr. Larson, University Professor and Hugh & Hazel Darling Chair in Law at Pepperdine University, is a Pulitzer Prize-winning author and a former UGA faculty member. His most recent book, The Return of George Washington, 1783-1789, reached The New York Times best sellers list this spring.

OIBR Research Talk

Professor Emeritus

Education

Ph.D., McGill University, 1978

Research Interests

My interests are in the areas of emotion regulation and gender identity. Studies are conducted on the effects of arousal, cognitive processes, and attendant affect on self-defeating behavior. Relationships among these processes and personality traits are investigated, and effects of gender identity, gender role stress, and sexual prejudice on behavior are also studied in my laboratory.

Dr. Zeichner is not accepting new Graduate students.

Research Interests

My research focuses on the causes, consequences, and prevention of sexual aggression. This encompasses two general areas: 1) the victims of sexual aggression, especially consequences such as PTSD and risk of revictimization, and 2) the characteristics of sexually aggressive men, including personality, attitudes and social behavior. A major project recently completed evaluated a prevention program designed to reduce the risk of revictimization. Related work on prevention as well as basic processes such as memory and attention is underway.

Mentoring Philosophy

Development of research skills is fostered through collaborative work with graduate students beginning with involving them in ongoing team projects in the first year and assisting them in developing increasingly independent projects. Research meetings are held weekly. Mentoring is aimed at giving students the skills they will need for success in academic and research careers. This includes writing for journal publication and grants. Almost all students are successful in publishing their work during their graduate tenure.

Clinical Interests

Clinical work is with a general adult population who have a wide variety of disorders. Victims of violence and abuse are a special focus. Clinical practicum training focuses on empirically supported treatment approaches and includes weekly team meetings, weekly individual supervision meetings, and extensive use of videotape and live observation.
