Graduate Student Kelly Rea Receives HRSA Graduate Psychology Education Fellowship!

4th year clinical graduate student, Kelly Rea, has been awarded a fellowship through the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) Graduate Psychology Education Grant, “Expanding Georgia’s Behavioral Health Workforce for Integrated OUD/SUD Prevention and Treatment with Underserved Populations.” This grant, led by Dr.

Dr. Kecia Thomas takes new position as Dean of Arts and Sciences at the University of Alabama at Birmingham!

After 27 years on the faculty in the Psychology Department, we congratulate Dr. Kecia Thomas on her new position as Dean of Arts and Sciences at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Dr. Thomas has most recently served as Senior Associate Dean in Franklin College, and her contributions to our department, the college, and the field of Industrial-Organization Psychology are immense. We are grateful for her scholarship, mentorship, and leadership at UGA, and will miss her very much!

UGA Psychology Clinic and The EMPOWER Lab Develop Racial Trauma Guide

With emancipation must come education.

The University of Georgia Psychology Clinic and The EMPOWER Lab have developed a Racial Trauma Guide that is free and available to the public. This initiative is aimed at providing education about racial stressors and symptoms of racial trauma, tips for coping with racial trauma, suggestions for being a better ally, ways to discuss race in white families, and resources for coping.

Graduate Student Violeta Rodriguez receives SCCAP Early Stage Graduate Student Achievement Award for Research!

Many congratulations to clinical graduate student Violeta Rodriguez who has received the Society of Clinical Child and Adolescent Psychology 2020 Early Stage Graduate Student Achievement Award for Research! Violeta received this award based on her innovative research examining differential item functioning by race and ethnicity in the Childhood Trauma Questionnaire. Congratulations, Violeta! Keep up the outstanding work!
